Project area B
Project area B "Characterization" identifies and assesses damage mechanisms and develops methods for the efficient characterization of damage states. For this purpose, measuring and testing strategies for the qualitative and quantitative description of damage based on a microstructural and mechanical characterization will be developed.
In the first funding period (1st to 4th research year), the influence of forming process parameters on damage development is analyzed using mechanical, thermal, electrical, and magnetic sensors. The characterization takes place successively at the starting material, in the forming process, and at the completely formed component in order to be able to trace the damage development over the complete process chain. In order to describe deformation-based damage mechanisms, in-situ investigations are carried out on different length scales with different weighting with regard to structure and mechanics. The data obtained can be used to characterize and model the main parameters influencing damage development.
